Exploring NYC: A Yearlong Journey Through 37 Neighborhoods – History, Culture, and Current Affairs (Tuesdays)

This course offers an in-depth exploration of 37 neighborhoods across New York City's five boroughs and parts of New Jersey. Through guest speakers and neighborhood visits, opportunities to connect directly with local community leaders, elders, and storytellers will be provided. These firsthand accounts will offer unique perspectives and enrich our understanding of each neighborhood's past and present.

Each week we will also sample cuisine from the neighborhood, trying all the empanadas, tamales, roti, doubles, dumplings, and Piroshki we can find! Adventurous eaters welcome!

Who:   Group of 5-10 students.  Ages: 11-16 

When: Tuesdays   10:00-3:00

Trips may often run late, so parents are encouraged not to schedule activities immediately after this class.

Where:  

Meet at the new and hidden Brooklyn Public Library Pacific Branch at 10 Lafayette (next to BAM/Whole Foods/Center for Fiction)

Staff: 

Lead Teacher: Noah Mayers. Noah is the founder of Brooklyn Apple Academy and has led more than 600 field trips around NYC and the Tri-State area.  He’s obsessed with NYC, history, systems, infrastructure, politics, and art.  

Cost:  

$4000 for the Year

Tuition Assistance Available from our community Fund. 

Families with means encouraged to donate to the community fund to increase access.
