Script to Stage: Seeing and Making Theater

Class Schedule & Core Experiences

In Script to Stage, participants don't just watch theater and film—they meet the professionals who bring it to life. This class is a hands-on exploration of the production process, divided into three rotating weekly experiences:

• Seeing the Work (12:30 PM – 5:00 PM): Attending 12 live matinee performances throughout the year.

• Meeting the Makers (12:00 PM – 4:00 PM): Taking 13 behind-the-scenes field trips to visit working theater and film professionals. We will meet with a playwright, costume designer, pyrotechnician, scenic painter, stop-motion animation studio, and cinematographer.

• Creating Our Own (12:00 PM – 2:00 PM): Participating in 13 workshop sessions dedicated to reading scripts, discussing the shows we’ve seen, and developing our own original characters, costumes, and set designs.

Projects & Prompts

Instead of traditional homework, participants will keep an ongoing show journal (written or video reviews) to track their thoughts. Weekly creative prompts will mirror what we are doing in class—such as drafting a review after a show week, designing a concept during a tour week, or reading a scene before a performance.

For students who want to dive deeper, we offer extended work prompts. We highly encourage students to create their own original work throughout the year, and we will actively build out opportunities for them to share it with the group.
